Miscellaneous Hajj Rules

It is haram to wear any stitched (sewn) clothes like shirt, vest, qaba, etc. during Ihram (all Mujtahids; Manasik-e-Hajj, article: 346).

As an obligatory precaution, wearing all sown clothes or those similar to clothes (like those worn over the clothes by shepherds; small jackets) must be avoided. But using blankets which have a stitched border around them is permitted (Ayatullah Khoei; Istifta'at: p. 241, Q.712)

Use of these items is allowed for a Muhrim although they may be sewn: 1. belts and traveller's belts, 2. Those used by hernia patients 3. Shoes that do not cover the whole upper feet. (Ayatullah Gulpaigani)

Belts, wrist watch strape, slippers (flip flops), and the like even if they are sewn are allowed although wearing such a belt is Makrooh. Similarly, it is allowed to wear Ihram whose sides are stitched or it has a manufacturer's mark or patch that is stitched to it (Ayatullah Seestani; Manasik, Q. 3347)

Similarly it is not allowed to wear such unstitched clothes that have buttons. It is, however, allowed to use them as mats, rugs, blankets or throws. (Ayatullah Khamenei)

Using (as if to wear) sewn items which are not clothes like belts and those used to keep things in them and are tied around the waist are not Haram to wear and there is no kaffarah for wearing them. (Ayatulah Khamenei)

If need arises for wearing sewn clothes, it is allowed to wear but Kaffarah must be given (Ayatullahs Tabrizi, Khamenei, Khoei, Seestani: according to Ihtiyat-e-Wajib the kaffarah is one sheep. Manasik Qs. 347-50)
